Happy Customer with KW Coilovers on a Nissan 350Z

Here are some shots from our customers that just got his Christmas early from Vivid Racing.  He geared his Nissan 350Z up nicely with wheels, coilovers, clutch, brakes, intake, short shifter, and exhaust.  The 350Z has become a classic rear wheel drive sports car and even replacing the 240SX as the car to have.  Out of all the mods he did, the KW V3 coilover kit was one of the best.  Independent rebound and compression, the KW V3 are the ultimate street and track performing coilover out there.  The real question now is which is Mans Best Friend!  Follow his build and more pics on Instagram at boss350z.

Final Mod List for Emily"s 350Z

This is a follow up blog to one we did in May. This 350Z already has looks to kill, but with the recent upgrades, it has the performance to back it up. This is our receptionist Emily’s car. Her car represents the fact that there’s more that meets the eye then a pretty set of wheels. In the last blog we were showing you how to install a set of Berk Test Pipes. Since then she’s added a few things that help make her point…

She started with Motordyne Plenum Spacers, Ksport Coilovers set at a three inch drop in the front and three and a half in the back. In addition some True header backed with three inch pipes and RSR mufflers. Tack on the Vortech V3 Supercharger with nine pounds of boost and she has no problem holding her own. She defined the body with a Veilside rear wing and Seibon carbon hood, front lip and grill delete. To top it all off she put on a set of Forgstar F14′s 19×10 +20 in the front and 19×11 +21 in the back.

With that list of upgrades, I think we rest our case. Here are some shots of the final product. Tell us what you think of the upgrades on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

Customer Upgrades his 350 Z with Work Durandal"s

This customer is not new to the aftermarket world. This is not this guy’s first rodeo when it comes to picking out a sexy set of wheels, to give his 350Z a whole new look. We have seen him rock Volk’s, Forgestars, and now he’s spoiling us with pictures of his newest pair of kicks. Our sales guy Dado (dado@vividracing.com ext.236) hooked him up with a pair of Work  Wheels Durandal DD 5.2′s to give his car, yet another, look.  They sit perfectly flush to be sexy but still functional. He went with the 19 x 10-5 R disc 5 x114.3 on the front and the 19 x 11-6 O Disc 5 x 114.3 on the back, just enough difference to give that truculent stance you’re looking for. They are calm silver cut clear (CFP) with a reverse lip. Check out more of this Z’s pictures here. Find your own set of wheels and tires here.

What do you think of the setup? Tell us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

How to Install a Plenum Spacer in a 350Z

This is our very own, Emily’s, 350Z. She loves her car just as much as the next enthusiast. That’s why when deciding to upgrade and get more horsepower, she went with a Motordyne Plenum Spacer.  The new Iso Thermal system from Motor Dyne, decreases upper and lower temperatures throughout the plenum due to the combination of aluminum, and the administration of the Iso thermal controls. The cooler intake air increases the air’s density, in-turn, boosting engine power. Below is a step-by-step guide of how to install your new plenum spacer. The pictures can help guide you  through steps of what the installation should look like.

  1. This is the engine bay and the car prepped for install
  2. Remove strut brace across motor with a 14mm socket remove plastic engine cover with 10mm socket
  3. Remove all (16)10mm head bolts and (2)10mm head nuts. Also remove the 2 guide pins in the lower plenum. For Iso Thermal gasket installation: Unbolt the upper and lower plenum to install the Iso Thermal gasket. Unbolt the lower collector. Then remove then discard the stock manifold gasket and place the thermal isolating gasket. Verify the gasket lines up before installing intake manifold then install the lower plenum assembly.
  4. Lay the aluminum spacer on top of the plenum to find the correct orientation. Then lift the plenum enough to slide the spacer in. Thread washers onto every supplied bolt. Make sure the upper plenum rests against the lower plenum evenly and tightly.
  5. Reattach the air intake to plenum
  6. Reattach Place one strut bar spacer on each of the strut bar studs then place the strut bar on. Starting at one side, lift the strut bar bracket just enough to slide in the other three strut bar spacers. When you see the center of the of the spacer aligned under the bracket, drop in the bolts and screw them in finger tight. Repeat on the opposite sides strut bar bracket then tighten down all the bolts. For the two nuts 20 ft-lb; and for the six bolts 24 ft-lb.

If you’re looking for other, easy engine upgrades, check out our cylinder heads, mounts and bushings, or ourgaskets and seals to make your engine run at optimum levels. Use these steps to install and let us know how it goes. Send us pictures of your plenum spacer or post them on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

Nissan 350Z Gen II Boosts Up Power from Injen

Nissan wanted to make a comeback to the sports car market after their giant success with the 300zx.  The 240sx was ok at the time, but nobody could predict its heavy drifting involvement today.  So they worked on the new Nissan 350Z.  This Z came out in 2 generations.  The first being the 03-06 and then the 07-08.  On the Gen 2 models, though they looked identical, there were some variances in the engine and performance.  One of the biggest one was the dual intake setup.  What becomes just about everyones first modification of a intake and exhaust was definitely done here.  So our customer equipped his 2007 Z with the Injen cold air intake kit.  Injen has been around a long long time making intakes, exhausts, intercoolers for different cars worldwide.  With their California based R&D department and manufacturing, they ensure each product makes justifiable horsepower and reliability.  This cold air intake is no different.  As you can see from the customers install pictures, it snakes around to be in the perfect spot for drawing in cooler air.  Cooler air to the engine means an increase in performance.  Check out the pictures below and some of the customers installation tips.  Shop all our Nissan 350Z Performance Parts here.

Installation Advice by customer:

1. The removal of the Strut Tower Bar should be done after releasing the pressure by loosening the outer large bolts on the drivers side of the Strut. Counting the turns of the center nut should be done so reinstallation can go smoothly. Reinstallation: Once the 4 nuts on the passenger and drivers side are tight ( always a good idea to mark where the bolts were), retention the center nut and then tighten the outer nuts so tension is maintained. If this is not done correctly, while cornering the strut tower will not perform its job.

2. An additional note should be made with the horns to say that the wiring should be placed in front of the horns and not behind where they could rub against the radiator.

3. Figure 31 shows the placement of the new horn bracket and reads: ” The assembled horns and bracket are now lowered behind the bumper area and attached to the drivers side stock location.” It should read the Passenger side stock location.

4. Figure 36: Installation of the Silicone Intake Hoses. There were no notes to include that on the passenger side there is a stock Oil Cooler. The passenger side Silicone Hose presses on those hoses leading to the oil cooler in front of the passenger side lower radiator. Luckily the hoses are protected, but with the usage of that extra space, you will not be able to get the left side bumper plastic fastener back in the supplied bracket… fig 20 and 38.

Overall a great install
