Customer Spotlight: Subaru WRX on WedsSport RN-55M

In case you didn’t know, Vivid Racing is a big name in the Subaru community. It all started back in 2002 with the first WRX build that launched us into the big leagues. Fast forward 16 years to 2018 and we are still selling Subaru parts. One of our customers recently picked up a set of WedsSport RN-55M wheels for their WRX hatchback. These wheels have a split five-spoke design, and with the beautiful blue color, they really pop on this WRX. Speaking of pop, the insane blue camo wrap on this WRX really makes it stick out from the sea of other Subarus out there.

Agency Power Stainless Steel Catback Exhaust System for Subaru STI

With its racetrack ready look and high performance, the Subaru STI is always a favorite among car enthusiasts. It may not be the fastest car out there, but there is no doubt that it is entertaining to drive. Its key features include an AWD system, 305 horses, and a fun 6-speed manual transmission.

Agency Power has developed one of the best sounding and performing exhaust systems for the 2015+ Subaru STI. The all-new resonated catback exhaust system features beautifully TIG welded T304 stainless steel piping that is 3 inches in diameter from the midpipe back. This increase in diameter dramatically improves the flow of the exhaust, providing the 2.5L turbo charged Subaru STI with an increase in horsepower, torque and race inspired sound. To further assist with the exhaust note the midpipe has been fitted with a resonator to ensure that the cabin is drone free. The entire system including the stainless steel exhaust tips have been polished to a mirror like finish. Cusco Releases Rear Pillar Power Brace for Subaru Impreza WRX/STI

Starting in the middle of March, Cusco Progressive Equipment will be carrying a new rear pillar power brace for the 2010-2014 Subaru Impreza WRX/STI sedan (GV chassis). The Cusco power brace has been designed to increase the chassis rigidity and improve the vehicle’s suspension response. This product’s construction consists of 22mm aluminum tubing with steel brackets finished in Cusco’s flagship blue color. This component will bolt directly into the C-Pillar with minor modifications.

Cobb Flex Fuel Upgrades Now Available for the 2008+ Subaru WRX and STI

If you are similar to us here at Vivid Racing then you love horsepower! Gaining those those extra ponies from your vehicle can be achieved through bolt-on parts and proper tuning, but there is an easier way that can really up the power and that is by using a different type of fuel such as Ethanol. Unlike race fuel which is expensive and impractical for daily use, Ethanol is cheap and can be easily obtained throughout the the US in the form of E85. E85 is an abbreviation for an ethanol fuel blend of 85% denatured ethanol fuel and 15% gasoline or other blend of hydrocarbon. The octane rating of E85 is approximately 105-108 Octane points (depending on manufacturer) which is essentially like running race fuel in your car but at over half the cost!

Cobb Tuning has just released their Flex Fuel upgrade kits for the 2008-2014 Subaru WRX and 2008-2016 STI. AEM E85 High Flow Fuel Pumps On Special!

Boosted vehicles are super easy to make more power with.  You simply turn up the boost!  However there is a limit to what you can do on this for the safety of your engine.  This is why most tuners will suggest running 109 octane or if tuned for it, running C16 leaded race gas.  The cooler burner fuel helps your vehicle run the increase horsepower and torque from the upped boost levels.  At $10 per gallon though, full time race gas cars can get expensive.  This is where E85 comes into play.

E85 is an alcohol based fuel that is 85% Ethanol and 15% Gasoline.  Having a higher octane rating, slows down the burn rate of the combustion cycle. This means that it is possible to increase the boost level, compression ratio, and/or  timing advance and return the mixture to a burn rate similar to that of gasoline, having a comparable level of ’safety’ in the cylinder, a similar mixture volatility, but albeit at a much higher power level.

On average it is not uncommon to see power increases of more than 30% in a turbocharged vehicle over “pump” fuel and more than 10% power increases are not uncommon over a comparable unleaded race fuel but again every application is different and there is no golden rule. The bottom line is though is it is unlikely you will ever see a car go backwards by making the switch, they will always make more power on E85.  Because of the properties that make up E85, in most vehicles, it is necessary to change out certain fuel components such as the fuel pump or injectors.

The AEM E85 Fuel Pump is designed for in-tank installation on high performance naturally aspirated and forced induction vehicles. It flows 320 lph (84 gph) at 43 PSI (please refer to the chart for fuel pump horsepower versus pressure for various applications and fuel types). AEM’s E85 Fuel Pump features robust internal construction that is designed to withstand the low lubricity characteristics of ethanol and methanol fuels, and has been tested to work with ethanol fuels up to E100, methanol fuels up to M100 and all types of gasoline.
