How to Remove the ECU on a McLaren 12C

So you are ready for more horsepower and have decided to get your McLaren ECU upgrade done.  Removing the ECU is pretty simple that you can do in your garage or have a shop do for you.  To get your car VRTuned, you must send us the ECU where we will bench flash it.  Currently there is no OBDII tuning support available so this is the only option.  The ECU is located behind the passenger rear wheel well.  You will know this is the ECU as it will have a BOSCH sticker and number on it.  If you accidently pull the drivers side, that is the POCC module which looks like a ECU.  This controls the transmission, aero wing, and suspension.

First step is to jack up the right rear of the car or put it on a lift. (other stuff taken off for simultaneous exhaust install)



Once lifted up, you will want to remove the wheel.



Now you need to remove all the small torx bolts that hold the liner in.



Once you have access to this, you will see a FOAM pad on the top inside of the fender.  You have to remove this piece which you can later tape back in place.



Now you have access to the ECU and you can unbolt it from the frame.



Thats it your done!  Once you have completed the removal, you send in your ECU to us at Vivid Racing.  We do the flash and then overnight it back to you.  When we bench flash a ECU, we never solder or modify your board in anyway.  The images might look like a wire mess, but each pin has its place which allows you to read and write to the ECU.  Any questions, just drop us a email or give us a call!
