Gnarly Looking EVO with Varis Widebody and SE37K"s

The Varis Widebody is one of the most aggressive looking kits on the market. The way the Varis front lip protrudes from the bumper sets the tone for the rest of the kit. The shark-like front Canards look gnarly. To make the look even more fierce he added the Voltex rear over fenders to really pronounce that widebody feel of the kit. When you move to the back, the Varis GT wing is the most prominent feature on the kit.

To finish off this bad ass build he went with one of our favorite and most popular wheel brands in the business. He’s rockin’ some 18×10.5 SE37K Volk Wheels with a bronze finish to give the look some variety. His license plate explains what he wanted from his build, a Trophy Wife.

If you’re looking for an insane build like this, contact Ahmed (ahmed@vividracing.com) and he’ll get you setup. You can shop VARIS here, VOLK wheels here, and Voltex here.

Spied BMW 2016 5 or 7 Series

You never know what you will see on a road trip. Going through central California Death Valley area is a hot bed for manufactures to test… Literally. The region can region 120F sometimes. Search our blog and we have had the chance to run into a herd of Porsche Panamera test mules in 2008 and the Porsche Macan in 2013. Not sure what this is as the German driver had little to say. He had no problem say it was not a Mercedes we I guess that! By the exhaust pipes and camouflage style kidney grills, this must be the 5 or 7 series. By size judgement this has got to be the 7 series. Were no spy photographers but enjoy and leave your comments!

Volkswagen Touareg TDI Becomes the Ultimate Daily Driver

Diesel cars and suvs are almost a hidden gem to the USA.  All over the rest of the world, diesel is more common than one would think.  It is a tuners and drivers paradise to work with as the turbo diesel engines done by Volkswagen and BMW can make some serious power.  This personally owned Volkswagen Touareg TDI was ready for more power so we did our VR Tuned ECU flash on it.  The 2011 SUV is a daily driver, road tripp’r, and family machine that now at 50,000 miles could use some more spunk. To flash the Touareg ECU, it requires it being removed from the vehicle as it cannot be OBDII flashed.  The Bosch EDC17 Tricore Processor must … Continue reading

Diesel Tuning on BMW 335D Out Torques 335I Turbo

We have done are fair share of N54 BMW 335I ECU tuning, but the unknown child of performance is BMW’s 335D for Diesel.  The turbo diesel power has huge gains much like our Volkswagen Touareg TDI flash did.  Diesel cars benefit extremely well from a ECU flash and this 335d proved it on our Mustang Dyno. One thing to note is the ECU change that occured in the 2011.  Where as the previous 06-10 BMW 335 was a Bosch EDC16, the 2011 is a EDC17 like the new F30 chassis.  This ECU can only be flashed on the bench outside of the car.  Our test car was a 2011 though we have flashed the earlier ones as pictured with our … Continue reading

Mini Countryman S JCW Modification Build Begins

Much like the Mini family always expanding, so is the Vivid Racing Project Car family.  Since 2001 we have made a name for ourselves with Project Cars and set a trend for others to follow with documentation, exploration, and validation of these vehicles.  A project car for us at Vivid Racing is a way to collaborate with our favorite brands and new brands to showcase their parts, as well develop new products with our sister company, Agency Power.  Each project car that we do allows us to gain first hand knowledge of that vehicle, its community of drivers, and what it takes to make modifications safe, reliable, and enjoyable.  Not speaking for everyone, but I have always said, “any idiot can list parts on a website, its the overall experience you give the client that matters.”  So to further our teams knowledge and provide a better experience to our potential customers, I/we introduce an all new type of project car to the Vivid Racing world…  Welcome Project Mini JCW!

Some people might ask why Mini.  To that I simply respond with, “ever been to a track day?”  The original Mini Cooper was bread from racing and the release of the first new generation Cooper had the same following.  But what Mini has done since its reintroduction is give the world a NikeID of cars with the ability to be unique, custom, and perform. With our concurrent Project 991 Turbo, a daily driver is a must.  Having built our awesome Ford Focus ST, we wanted to stick with a similar size vehicle, have it be turbocharged, but something all wheel drive.  The Mini Cooper Countryman fits these wants and when the search began, the S and JCW were a must.  The S is obviously the turbocharged version.  Its 1.8L turbo 4 cylinder produces 208 horsepower to the awd sportier platform.  Stock 0-60mph is 6.8 seconds which is nearly 4 seconds slower than our 991 Turbo.  But the improvement even past the enhanced JCW version is what we do best.

So besides some basic aesthetic enhancements, we plan to improve performance and handling to make this interesting 5 door body scream more that grocery getter.  Starting with the power of the car, we are utilizing our VRTuned ECU Tuning Software to squeak out another 40+ horsepower.  Like all turbocharged cars, the exhaust system is a big restriction.  To maximize the exhaust flow while throwing some style at it, we have gotten a Quicksilver catback with carbon fiber exhaust tips.  With Agency Power, we will work on producing some parts such as the downpipe, intercooler, intercooler pipe, intake, and pulley to further the cars performance and throttle response.  The JCW already comes with a 0.4 inch lowered ride height than the standard Countryman.  However we were lucky enough to have a set of NM Engineering springs to install from the previous owner.  Similar to H&R Springs, the NM springs lower the car about 1 inch giving the Countryman S a much more aggressive stance and stiffening up the ride for better handling.  To further the handling needs, we plan on making some control arms and bushings with Agency Power.

With some additional accutrements on the interior and exterior, we expect this Mini to fulfill all Vivid Racing Project Car qualities in performance, handling, and style.  Make sure to stay tuned to our official Mini JCW Gallery here and shop all your Mini Cooper Performance Parts here.

Customer in Brazil building a McLaren MP4-12C Track Monster

We told you about our sales guy Adam following a build he found online that ended with him buying the car off the people who were building it. That intrigue to watch something being built from the ground up is where a tuner’s root spring from. Our customer is starting to build his own McLaren Mp4-12C to track in Brazil. When we say building, we mean from the ground up.

He’s starting with the Mc4-12c shell. You can see the body shape in the pictures below. They dropped a Ford Edge drivetrain into the custom made chassis and will be fabricating a Garret twin turbo system. With the meat of the build mapped out, he wanted to make sure this track monster could stop on  a dime. He went to the best in braking and will be installing some Brembo 6 piston calipers in the front and 4 piston calipers in the rear. He’s unsure what suspension system he’ll be going with, but a set of coilovers will be in the mix for sure. We are working with MHT, the makers of Niche, to get some custom 19″ and 20″ wheels made for this insane build.

These are all the details we have at this moment, but we will be following this build closely. We will be posting updates as we get them in from the customer. Until then, here are the exclusive, first-looks at the build he sent us.

More Horsepower and Torque from VR Tuned on this Cayenne Turbo

Not many companies are flashing via the OBDII port like VR Tuned, but one of the more rare Porsche vehicles to flash is the SDI4 ECU found in the Porsche 957 Cayenne.  This particular Cayenne Turbo 4.8L DFI got the chance to prove the power of a VR Tune on our Mustang All Wheel Drive Dyno here at Vivid Racing in Gilbert, Arizona.  With a low reading dyno and hot temperatures already against us, this SUV proved why it is a animal ready to explode with just a ECU flash.  The truck baselined at 375 awhp and 410 ft/lbs of torque.  The factory rates these at 490 bhp with 520 ft/lbs to the crank.  With the heat, 91 octane, and the low reading Mustang dyno, we typically say that our vehicles show a 20-25% drivetrain loss in all wheel drive.  At 20% we are spot on for the horsepower number off of the factory rating.

With the ECU flash completed using our very simple instructions seen here, we redynoed the vehicle with a cool down period to see some serious gains!  The truck made an impressive 70 ft/lbs of torque to the wheels.  This is what is really important for the Cayenne in terms of daily driving, off the line, 0-60 mph power.  This gain in torque is also huge in pulling cargo such as boats and for the lucky few, your Porsche race car!  But besides the large gain in torque, the Cayenne Turbo also made a peak gain of 35 awhp at 6000rpm.  Even more impressive was the gain where the power is mostly used between 3500 rpm and 5000 rpm.  In this part of the curve the Cayenne Turbo maintained about a 60 awhp gain.  With the addition of some cat bypass pipes and K&N filters, this truck would rip even faster!  Check out the driving footage and dyno we did, and if interested in purchasing, visit our Porsche Cayenne ECU Tuning page here.
