McLaren 12C Warehouse Photoshoot with NEW Niche Wheels

The McLaren 12C is one of the most amazing cars we have owned in our Project Car series, since starting with our Subaru WRX in 2001.  Having taken ownership of this 2012 12C Coupe in May 2015, we have had a chance to really “drive” this vehicle.  Picking it up with 9700 miles, the car now proudly has 12,700 on the clock.  From its stock status on a drive from San Francisco to Phoenix (read here), to our fun run of 500 miles on the old Rte 666 (US HWY 191), to ripping it down the 1/2 mile runaway with Omega Motorsports, we have seat time.  What I can tell you is that this first generation supercar from McLaren since the ultra rare McLaren F1 is truly made for the driver to be one with the car.  As McLaren evolves into a production house of new vehicles including the 650S, 675LT, and the well received 911 fighter, the 570S, McLaren will be a car that is not just your wallpaper on your computer, but one you will want to strive and work hard to own.

So whats up with the photoshoot?  Well if you follow our Project McLaren 12C Gallery, you will notice we got some new shoes.  Wheels that are more fitting for the car have been installed.  The Niche Agile wheels are a 3 piece wheel in the stock sizes of 19 inch front and 20 inch rear.  The offsets are more aggressive to sit flush with the fenders.  The matte black centers and gloss black lips is a very timeless look and almost P1’ish.  They feature a standard reverse lip with the center forgings being extended to the outer lip to give the maximum concave look.  Complimenting the full Vorsteiner Aero Kit, the car is still equipped with a turboback, valvetronic ArmyTrix titanium exhaust that makes the most incredible sound under throttle.  The car goes from 616hp to 700hp with our VR Tuned ECU Flash.

We were lucky to be able to access this huge warehouse spot at AvAir where are former Project 991 Turbo resides (sans red wheels for a track day).  The photos definitely pop on the fresh concrete floors and don’t look have bad with those 747 turbine engines in the back.  We hope you enjoy our articles, photos, and of course videos.  You can see all these McLaren Products Here.

McLaren 12C vs McLaren 12C - Half Mile Drag Race

We thought we would share this video from the recent Omega Motosports Half Mile event in Gila Bend, Arizona of our McLaren racing another McLaren.  Some might say, “why show you losing?”  Well, we are showing 2 things here.  The first is how important proper gear selection for roll races are and the difference between basic ECU Tune and Exhaust compared to a car that has upgraded turbos.  We have on flip side showed us kicking ass in our Porsche with turbo upgrades compared to a stock with a tune and exhaust or even compared most recently different 991 Turbo bolt-ons and tunes with ours being victorious.  You can’t always win, but if you watch till the end, the sportsmanship is what counts and needs to be redefined in this crazy car game!  Have fun!

Mods on our McLaren are:  ArmyTrix full exhaust, VR Tuned ECU Flash, Vorsteiner Aero Kit, Rotiform 3pc Wheels.

Noted from the video – “Gear selection and turbos make the difference!  Rematch coming December 12, 2015!  Shot with GoPro Hero2 Wide Angle 1080P.

Vorsteiner Aero and Rotiform Wheels Transform the McLaren

When I got this McLaren, I had every intention from the start to get a aero kit on it.  In it’s stock form, the front end of the 12C is just lacking.  McLaren really did the body justice when they came out with the 650S front end.  The rear too seems tall and needs more aggressive accents to it.  All of this definitely came together with the Vorsteiner Aero Kit.  In fact, the front end makes me think, did McLaren copy Vorsteiner’s front since it was released first?  In addition to the kit, wheels were a must.  Generally when we do Project Cars we work with a wheel company and choose the style and color.  However this time we did it differently working with the guys at Rotiform.  My exact words were, “make me something, just keep the stock sizes“.  So that is what they did!  And boy did they get unique on me with this new Rotiform CHD 3 piece wheel.  We did a nice video review piece on the wheels here.  We also added a 4 piece carbon fiber engine panel kit that will be available from Agency Power.  So now that we have our basic mods of the ArmyTrix Exhaust, Vorsteiner Aero Kit, Rotiform Wheels, what will we do now?  Well, how about a photoshoot :).  Lights, camera, action in the shop to present these awesome pictures!  Trust that we are not done yet, so stay tuned to our Project McLaren Blog Here.
