Inventor and manufacturer Mods4cars has now overhauled the exterior design of the SmartTOP module itself. Effective immediately all kits for the Porsche 911 Carrera come with the module in a new product enclosure. This custom designed enclosure is extremely slim and easier to install in the car than ever before. Two LEDs help during the installation process.

“The new enclosure was specifically designed for our SmartTOP modules.” Sven Tornow continues. “They now envelop all components of the internal electronics, including connectors, USB Port and LEDs. The SmartTOP is a module that comes as part of an add-on Convertible Top Controller kit and can be installed by anyone. It allows owners to control their top from a distance by just using the original key fob remote. A quick sequence of key presses triggers a full automatic top operation. “The top can be opened while still approaching the car. In the opposite case it can be closed quickly at the first sign of impending rainfall, with no need to get inside and turn the ignition on.” Sven Tornow continues. Neither the original key remotes nor any of the car’s safety systems need to be modified.

Additionally, when inside, the top can be opened or closed conveniently with a quick tap on the console switch. It is no longer necessary to hold down the switch for the entire duration of the operation. “This saves time, as the SmartTOP customer can touch the switch, turn the ignition off, get out and lock the car, while the top continues to close by itself.” Sven Tornow explains.

It is possible to program the desired position of the windows after opening the top. Selections include all windows down, front windows up and all windows up. The windows can also be controlled from the remote fob, separately from the top.

By factory default the two small rear windows are permanently in the down position as long as the convertible top is open. One of the SmartTOP features now allows them to be raised. The car owner can decide if he wants all four windows to come up after opening the top for a better wind protection while driving at higher speeds. It also improves on the overall look of the California with top down; raising all windows gives the Ferrari a more refined and complete look.

An extended mode can be activated, which allows the engine to be started or stopped while a top operation continues. All features can be individually programmed. The module comes with built-in USB port and support software for Windows and Mac as well as firmware updates for all products are available online, free of charge. The module’s functions can also be programmed in the car with a sequence of keypresses.

The kit comes complete with a plug-and-play wiring adapter for extremely easy installation. Connecting the module to the car electronics is done by simply plugging in a few connectors. SmartTOP Convertible Controller for Audi A5 and R8 Spyder

Aftermarket automotive electronics specialist SmartTop has improved the design of the wiring adapter which ships with the SmartTOP kit for the Audi A5 Convertible and R8 Spyder. The SmartTOP Convertible Top module now comes with a custom designed dual plug-in-between wiring adapter which uses OEM connectors and thereby makes the whole installation process a mere act of connecting plugs.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our SmartTOP for the Audi A5 Convertible and the R8 Spyder now with a further improved wiring adapter.“ says PR-Manager Sven Tornow. “As a result all that needs to be done to install our kit is to connect OEM plugs which lock and latch perfectly. Wire taps are not being used any longer.” Sven Tornow continues. “This allows for a quick and straightforward installation of our kit by pretty much anyone in order to enjoy the benefits of the SmartTOP product.”

Once the SmartTOP module is installed it is possible to open and close the top at slow speeds of up to 60 km/h (~38mph) and with one-touch convenience. It is no longer necessary to hold down the top switch for the duration of the operation. Hands can return to the steering wheel immediately.

Additionally it is possible to control the top from the original key fob remote. “On hot days our customers can already open their top while still approaching their car.” explains Sven Tornow. In the opposite case the top can be quickly closed from afar at the first sign of impending rainfall. No changes are necessary to the existing key remotes or receiver system.

The following bonus features are included as well: The windows can be lowered and raised separately by remote. The console top switch direction can be reversed, if desired. On the A5 the side blinkers can be activated during remote top operation. When locking the car, a short horn signal (chirp) can be activated (A5) and an extended mode can be activated which allows starting or stopping the engine while a top operation continues. The entire module can be deactivated temporarily while retaining all user settings for when it is reactivated later on.

All functions can be programmed to individual needs. Configuration of the module is possible in the car or with a Mac or PC. SmartTOP modules are equipped with a standard USB port which allows connecting it to a computer for quick and easy configuration and firmware updates.
