The new 2015 Subaru WRX is a complete redesign with some features that people like and do not like. Â Starting with the front end, Subaru tends to put their focus there. Â Going back through the Subaru WRX chassis since landing on USA shores, the front is really the main part that has changed. Â Only in 2007 when they switched to a 5 door hatch for the STI did they really stray away from the normal Rally inspired sedan. Â Their trademark feature of the big rally wing and boxxer motor is what makes the Subaru unique.
With the 2015 Subaru WRX, they really changed it up. Â Where the STI retains the same style engine and turbo that we have seen since 2002, the WRX now has the turbo mounted right off the header. Â The downpipe is completely different but the catback exhaust is the same as the 2008 and up WRX. Â The Boxxer Engine is still a 2.0L turbo that makes 268bhp. Â The top mount intercooler is similar in design to the older 08+ WRX. Â The pulleys are slightly different so require an entirely new engineering design. Â This is where Tomioka comes into play.
We all know that less rotational mass is always better. Â The rotational weight has a factor of 3 compared to static weight. Â So when you save 3lbs on a rotational weight item, it is really like saving 9lbs. Changing out the pulley system will give your Subaru WRX much quicker throttle response as there is less engine load. Â In the case of these Tomioka Racing light weight water pump pulley, it shaves off 56% from the original pulley. Â This makes the engine easier to move with less mass. Â For reference, the factory pulley weighs in at 320 grams where the new Tomioka pulley weighs only 140grams. Â The pulley is made from CNC machined aluminum that has then been anodized in gold and is a 100% bolt on. Â This is a very highly recommended product for the 2015 Subaru WRX.
